My Photo of The Day November 17th, 2010

One of the first times we took our Jeep out on the trails. It was a blast and certainly showed us what we needed to do to our Jeep in order to make it through some of the more challenging trails.

My Photo of The Day November 16th, 2010

I am absolutely terrified of spiders, but didn't let it stop me from capturing this shot with my very first digital camera. This all I could do with the photo with my first camera, my first editing program, and my very limited experience. I may re-post this shot on another day after I have run it through Photoshop.

Week 10 Digital Photography Assignment Paint & Text

This is the original base photo that I used for this weeks project.

I took a photo of the wing of a butterfly to use for the project.

I did a lot of different things to this photo. I cloned different parts of the water to cover up parts of the bathing suit. I also cloned the skin on her back and got rid of the texture of the bathing suit so that I had a clean slate to start from. I darkened her skin by using the adjustments in Exposure. I then copy and pasted the wings in and cloned some of the spots from the wings on to her back. I copy and pasted the antennas on her and changed the perspective on one of them in Transform. I played with different adjustments to each of the images. The last thing I did was add the text and to add some interest to the text I played around with the drop shadow and inner glow.

My Photo of The Day November 11th, 2010

This is a self portrait that I did for soaphoto.com. I really don't like being in front of the camera but was pretty happy with this one so I kept it.

My Photo of The Day November 8th, 2010

This shot was captured at an open mic night during a play reading. She scolding in the play and I thought the look on her face was very much the look of an authority figure scolding.

My Photo of The Day November 7th, 2010

This shot was taken on Thanksgiving day last year. We were coming back from doing some quick grocery shopping when I saw this scene.

This hermit crab was actually under water. It was such a cool color I had to try to get a shot of it. It winded up turning out pretty good.

Digital Photography Assignment Dodge and Burn & Filters

I have a few edited photos for this assignment. I have to say that I wasn't particularly excited about the filters. In my old editing program there was not room for adjustment or any way to make it 'yours'. It was push a button and the program did all the work. For me this meant that it took the creative process away from me. However, with Photoshop it is different for some of the filters. Photoshop's filter allow more room for artistic expression.

This is the before shot of an old Willy's Jeep.

This is finished product after I used both the dodge and burn tool. I used it to slightly darken and lighten parts of the Jeep and of the snow ground. I also copy and pasted a part of the sky to cover up the tree on the right upper corner. I then used the dodge and burn tools to create a stormier sky and to blend he layers. I also used the eraser tool to help blend some of the edges better.

I used the dodge and burn photo for the base of my filter. I tried quite a few. Some of them went too far and made it so there was nothing recognizable left in the photo and others just didn't go far enough. I ended up using the extrude filter under stylize. I left the setting pretty much how I found them and liked the results. I then went under the hue and saturation tool, selected colorize, and chose this color. I tweaked the contrast/brightness and came up with this.

This is the before photo.

The first thing I did was to select the pendant with the lasso selection tool and then copy and paste it. I darkened the background layer, using exposure, until it was black. The I selected the top jewel with the lasso selection tool and inverse the selection. I turned it black and white and used the dodge and burn tools to tone down the glare in some areas and to lighten others. I also tweaked the contrast and brightness. I then inverse the selection again so that just the top Jewel was selected again and used the color balance tool.

This was fun. I used the dodge and burn photo and used liquify under the filter options. I used two different size paint brushes and just played with the image until I got it to this point. Very cool filter to play with.

I love the train and all of the little rooms in the cars, at the Shelburne Museum. This is a photo of that train that I turned black and white and made it look a little like an older photo.

My Photo of The Day November 3rd, 2010

My husband took me out for a ride around the back roads to try to find some good photography subjects. And I took a picture of him when he wasn't paying attention :)

My Photo of The Day November 2nd, 2010

These were on a big safe that was in the gallery that our artist guild showed in. Members of the guild took turns watching the gallery to increase the hours it was open. Not a lot of people came in when I was watching the gallery so I used the time to take some photographs.

My Photo of The Day October 31st, 2010

I took this photo during one of our first snow falls last year. It had been cold enough that the snow was sticking to the dead wild flowers.
